Is it necessary to buy one? If ever I buy, will this prolong the life of my laptop? What would happen if I don’t use a cooling pad?

Hey, my internet explorer keeps redirecting me to other websites that i don’t want to go to. If you know any info on how to find the file doing this, or how to get rid of it without downloading a lot of crap.
